Is NordVPN worth buying?

NordVPN is worth shortlisting if ten simultaneous connections cover your devices and its current apps support the controls you need. Start with the VPN plan, then pay for a larger bundle only when you will use its extras.

This review assesses provider documentation checked on 16 October 2026. We have not performed original speed, leak or streaming tests, so our recommendation concerns documented fit rather than a lab score.

Which NordVPN plan do you need?

The US-facing plan catalogue we checked offered Basic, Complete and Prime. Names, prices and extras can differ by market; match this table to the checkout you actually see.

A higher tier did not increase the ten-connection allowance in this catalogue. The antivirus and several advanced threat-protection features were labelled for desktop use; buying the bundle does not put every desktop control on your phone. Some Prime services are restricted to US customers.

App features: check your operating system

NordVPN’s split-tunneling overview identifies Windows, Android and Android TV for app-based exclusions. A browser exception and a device-wide VPN rule solve different problems.

Linux deserves particular care. Its allowlist documentation says matching traffic bypasses both the tunnel and the kill switch, in both directions. A port exception is broader than “allow this one app.”

The same support article acknowledges that an excluded app may see your ordinary IP address while DNS still uses NordVPN’s servers. An exclusion therefore may not resolve every location-related connection problem. Test the specific service instead of adding more exceptions blindly.

Ten connections, a router or separate apps?

Ten connections can cover a laptop, phone, tablet and television with room left over. Count devices that will be connected at the same time, rather than every device on which you might install the app.

NordVPN’s device-limit guide says a configured router uses one slot. First confirm that the router supports the provider’s VPN-client setup. Router coverage does not establish that native-app controls, such as per-app exclusions, will be available on every connected device.

The guide also describes protocol restrictions when several devices use the same server. Its enumerated methods and stated per-server total do not agree, so we would confirm that edge case with support rather than invent a second numeric limit. Selecting different servers is an available option.

If your household regularly exceeds ten active connections, compare Surfshark and PIA. Their unlimited allowances still depend on permitted account use and your own network capacity.

Kodi, television and phone checks

Install the VPN for the device running Kodi: a Windows computer and an Android TV box need different apps. Our Kodi device guide walks through that choice. A browser extension alone does not cover a standalone media-player app.

For an Android phone, use the Android VPN checklist and check what happens when you switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. On any device, try sleep, reconnect and an ordinary video call during your evaluation. These are checks for your own setup, not results we have measured.

Refund rules depend on where you paid

NordVPN’s refund policy describes a 30-day guarantee for a first subscription. Ordinary renewal payments are outside that guarantee unless applicable law requires otherwise. Stopping automatic renewal and requesting a refund are separate actions.

Keep the receipt, seller, purchase date and renewal date. A money-back guarantee still involves an initial payment and eligibility conditions; do not treat it as a free month or assume every store follows the website process.

Which alternative fits better?

Choose Surfshark if a household connection cap is your main concern, then compare its app controls. Consider PIA for its documented desktop routing options. If you prefer a short commitment, Mullvad offers a flat monthly reference; for occasional use on one device, assess Proton VPN Free separately from paid subscriptions.
